Nearing the completion of winter maintenance for Diamond Lil, a decision had to be made to replace a major load bearing structural part of the left and right main landing gear, which has reached its safe service life. This replacement will ensure the continued safe operation of Diamond Lil into the future for many years to come.
There are no replacement parts in existence - not in our inventory, nor in any other inventory around the world!
This leaves only one option: contract with an air parts manufacturer to produce two new parts. As you can imagine, a part of this significance is not cheap, and we need two. The cost is $50,000 per part. Therefore, to get Diamond Lil back in the air, we need to raise $100,000 for the cost to manufacture two parts.
WITH YOUR HELP,
Diamond Lil will remain the world's oldest airworthy 4-engine bomber, and one of only two flying B-24 Liberators left in the world.
Over 18,000 B-24 Liberators were built.
Please donate today to help pay for this very expensive repair!
With your help, Diamond Lil can get back in the air and she can continue to fly for many years to come. Your contribution will help us continue to share B-24 flight experiences and to honor those that sacrificed their lives for the freedom we have today. We cannot fly until new parts are manufactured and installed.
